I’ve never voted. Where do I start?

Before you can vote, you must register to vote in Idaho. Registering to vote in Idaho takes just minutes. You must be 18 years old by November 3, 2026, and have lived in Idaho for at least 30 days. And you can even register and vote on the same day, even Election Day! (See Vote on Election Day, below.)

What you need to register

To register to vote in person, you will need (1) a current photo ID and (2) proof of residence. Register to vote using your primary Idaho residence.

1 – Photo ID. Bring one of:

  • Idaho Driver’s License
  • Idaho Identification Card
  • Passport or Federal ID
  • Tribal ID Card
  • Concealed Weapons License issued by a county sheriff in Idaho

2 – Proof of Residence. Bring one of:

  • Photo ID (see list above) with the correct address
  • Proof of insurance
  • Mortgage, lease, or rental agreement
  • Property tax assessment, bill
  • Utility bill (no cell bills)
  • Bank/credit card statement
  • Paystub/paycheck
  • Intake document to a care facility
  • Enrollment letter from an Idaho high school or university
  • Letter from a social service agency

Register to Vote:

  1. You can register to vote online before October 23, 2026
  2. You can register to vote in-person at your county office by October 23, 2026
  3. To register, you need (1) current photo ID and (2) proof of residence. Register to vote using your primary Idaho residence.

You can also register in-person and vote on the same day (see Vote on Election Day, below)

Vote Early In-Person:

  1. Vote early in Bonner County at Bonner County Administration Building.
  2. You can register AND vote on the same day. Bring (1) photo ID and (2) proof of residence.
    • 1500 Hwy 2, Sandpoint (corner of Division and Hwy 2)
    • Monday-Friday, 9 am to 5 pm
    • On these dates only: October 19 – 23 and October 26 – 30.

Vote by Absentee Ballot (Vote by Mail):

  1. To request an absentee ballot and check the status of your request please visit: https://voteidaho.gov/casting-your-ballot/#absentee-voting

    Or you can download a 2026 ABSENTEE REQUEST FORM.
  2. The request can be dropped off, mailed, emailed, or faxed to the Elections Office. The deadline to
    request a mail-in absentee ballot is October 23rd at 5:00 PM.

Vote on Election Day:

  1. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
  2. Enter your address here to find your polling location.
  3. You can register to vote AND vote on Election Day. Go to your correct polling location and bring (1) photo ID and (2) proof of residence (see What You Need to Register, above)
