Aid for Minneapolis

I attended college in Minnesota, and I have wonderful memories of my time there. My college was a Catholic school, and many of my friends and I protested alongside the nuns and priests who taught us. We were fighting for women’s equality in the Catholic Church, and for an end to war around the world.

Many of my college friends still live in Minnesota, and many are in Minneapolis. One friend lives in Powderhorn Park, the Minneapolis neighborhood where Renee Nicole Good was murdered, and where George Floyd was murdered in 2020. She sent me this last night:

Hello friends!

Here in south Minneapolis we are out in the streets showing up for each other in a million ways. There is so much kindness and connection amidst so much trauma and heartbreak.

I’ve been helping get food to people.

My little group has been able to deliver almost 200 boxes of free food Monday and Tuesday of each week for the past month or so.

Last week when the surge was announced our organizer asked for donations of art supplies to put in our boxes. Lots of kids are stuck inside right now, hiding.

There are lots of other mutual aid opportunities, but if you are interested in giving me money to buy art supplies, or donating supplies you already have (packaged into Ziploc bags please), please let me know!

If you would like to donate to Minneapolis and St. Paul mutual aid, please send us a donation via Rachel’s Venmo with the note “MN Mutual aid”.

Our partners in Minnesota are also looking for donors interested in sponsoring a family. We have three families living at one address who are sheltering in place and in need of regular food boxes and help with utilities. Anyone interested in sponsoring one of these families can respond by commenting on this via email or on the web or by sending an email to Sandpointindivisible@gmail.com and we can put you in touch with the organizers.

Sandpoint Indivisible turned up in force 200+ people strong today to say “ICE OUT FOR GOOD.” Thanks to all who came, to our Peacekeepers, to Sandpoint Police, and to Evan’s Brothers Coffee who made our joy as big as our outrage.

If you would like to JOIN the choir you heard singing at Saturday’ protest, we would love to have you!
